Super you, super me and super heroes

Autumn 1 – Marvellous Me

This topic settles the children into school as they learn about things that have meaning to them such as pets, their family and people in school. They learn about why this makes them unique and marvellous!

Autumn 2 -Celebrations

This topic allows children to share what is special to them, in particular festivals or events that are special.

Spring 1 – Space

The children will learn about the wonder of outer space and space travel.

Spring 2 – Traditional Tales

The children become familiar with traditional tales including: The Three Little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man and other well known stories.

Summer 1 – Fantastic Creatures

This is a first introduction to the scientific aspect of animals. The children will learn about different groups of animals such as jungle animals or farm animals, and why these animals belong to these groups. They will also learn about mythical creatures too.

Summer 2 -Heroes

In this topic the children will learn about great qualities in people and what makes someone a ‘hero’. It allows the children to be creative in designing their own characters.

Reception Outside Learning Area

We are very lucky at Belvedere Infant and Nursery School to have an amazing, Reception outside learning environment. Outdoor learning is a vital part of your child’s Early Years experience. In Reception, children learn just as much outside as they do indoors. The outdoor environment offers unique opportunities that help children develop across all areas of learning.

Outdoor spaces give children the chance to explore, make decisions, take safe risks and learn how to manage them. Learning in larger spaces encourages teamwork, sharing and negotiation. Children often work together to build, create and solve challenges. Being outdoors helps children connect with nature, observe changes in weather and seasons, and develop curiosity about the world around them. Fresh air, space to move and freedom to explore support children’s emotional health, helping them to feel calm, happy and ready to learn.
