Welcome to Year 4!
Here in Year 4, we’re on an exciting learning journey filled with discovery, creativity, and curiosity! Below are some of the exciting topics we’ll be exploring this year across our curriculum:
Y4 Curriculum topics
PSHE – Brainwaves
We begin the year by learning how we learn! In our Brainwaves topic, we explore how the brain works, how we can be independent learners and what helps us stay focused, motivated and resilient. It’s all about getting into the right mindset for a successful year ahead!
🏺 History & Geography – Temples, Tombs and Treasures
Step back in time with us as we uncover the fascinating world of Ancient Egypt. We’ll explore mighty pyramids, mysterious mummies and the lives of pharaohs. Through geography, we’ll also study the importance of the River Nile and how it shaped Egyptian civilisation. Get ready to become an archaeologist and uncover some ancient secrets!
🌍 Geography – Different Places, Similar Lives
In this topic, we compare our lives with those of children in different parts of the world. We explore where they live, go to school and what daily life is like. It helps us appreciate our differences while also recognising how much we all have in common. A great way to become global citizens!
🌿 Science – Land, Sea and Sky
We’ll explore the amazing world of living things, their habitats and how they adapt to survive. From deep oceans to high skies, we’ll investigate how animals and plants are suited to their environments and why caring for nature matters.
🔊 Science – Making Waves
In Making Waves, we dive into the science of sound and light. We’ll discover how sound travels, how we hear, and how light helps us see. Through fun experiments and hands-on investigations, we’ll learn how waves shape the world around us.
🎨 Art – Landscapes Through Sketching and Painting
Using pencil, paint, and pastels, we’ll learn how to sketch and paint beautiful landscapes. We’ll explore colour, texture, and perspective while being inspired by famous artists and the world around us.
🛠️ DT – Designing and Making
We’ll get creative in Design and Technology with two exciting hands-on projects:
- 🎶 Making Panpipes – Explore how sound works by designing and making your own musical instrument.
- 🍕 Designing a Healthy Pizza – Learn about food groups, nutrition, and cooking skills by creating your own healthy pizza.
